The Tale of Two Wolves
An old Cherokee story tells of two wolves that battle within each person. One wolf represents negative qualities like anger, envy, greed, and arrogance. The other embodies positive traits like joy, peace, kindness, and compassion.
When asked which wolf will win this internal battle, the wise elder simply replies, "The one you feed." This profound insight reveals that you have power over your internal state – your thoughts, feelings, and actions aren't completely beyond your control.
This story teaches us that our minds aren't single entities but contain different parts that can conflict with each other. The crucial lesson is that you have the ability to choose which aspects of yourself to nurture and strengthen.
Life-changing realization: You may not control every thought or feeling that arises, but you always have a choice about which ones you "feed" with your attention and energy.
