Expressionism
Expressionist artists created works with powerful emotional impact rather than realistic images. Their art reflects internal feelings and imagination instead of just the physical world they observed.
Several distinctive styles emerged within the expressionist movement. Neoprimitivism combined elements from South Sea Islander art and African tribal carvings, with Amadeo Modigliani being a notable artist in this style.
Fauvism (meaning "wild beasts") emphasized strong colors and visual distortions, with Henri Matisse creating iconic works like "Blue Window" and "Woman with Hat." Dadaism used imagination, remembered images, and visual surprises, with Giorgio de Chirico creating mysterious, dream-like scenes.
๐ก Unlike Impressionists who captured the outside world, Expressionists painted their inner worldsโtheir emotions, dreams, and fears. That's why their art often looks distorted or unrealistic!
